Those who like cold weather are in for a weeklong treat.

Forecasters say the cold snap that has hit Georgia is going to stick around until at least the end of the week.

Normal extremes for Troup County are 55 and 37 for this time of year. But the mercury will be much lower this week. And there’s even a chance of snow in the forecast.

The mercury is headed for the mid-teens tonight and the upper 30s Tuesday, but wind gusts will make it feel like 5. Tuesday night’s low should be around 10.

Daytime temperatures should rise a bit Wednesday and Thursday, but there’s a 20 percent to 30 percent chance of snow Thursday.

Colder temps return for the weekend, with highs in the mid-30s and lows in the midteens Friday though Sunday.

Southbound lanes of I-575 around the Cherokee-Pickens County line were closed this morning after water used to put out a vehicle fire turned to ice.
