The veterans’ wall at Troup County Government Center was designed to honor and remember all U.S. military veterans with ties to Troup County. That’s men and women, living and dead, from every branch of military service and every era of our history, including peace-time.

Toward that end, Tuesday’s Veterans Day services at the wall included the reading of names of 177 veterans with local connections who died within the past year. With respect, appreciation and pride, we share the names today:

My 80 year old mother paid $40 cash well over a year ago to have a brick paver placed for her brother who served in WWII. We have contacted several people involved with this "project" several times and she has taken an agonizingly painful walk with the help of a walker to the site to see if the paver had been placed. We have provided a copy of the receipt showing that she paid cash to have this done all to no avail. So people beware of this. Whoever pocketed this $40 from an elderly woman on a fixed income whose birthday is November 11th, hope you sleep well at night.

Oops....re-read the first paragraph. Hope someone other than myself remembered the sacrifice that Howard made for us all.
