Rev. Ross Beall, 95, of LaGrange, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Hospice LaGrange following a brief illness.

Charles Ross Beall was born August 23, 1914 in Talbot County, Georgia, youngest son of Daniel Webster Beall and LouFindia Smith Beall. He was reared in the Dixie Mill Village, was a 1932 graduate of LaGrange High School, where he played baseball, basketball and ran track. He attended Southern Tech. He played semi-pro baseball for many years, playing all infield positions, including his favorite, second base. Rev. Beall was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served at the Naval Air Technical Training Center at the Naval Air Station in Norman, Oklahoma, as an instructor on the instrumentation of the B-52 bomber.

Rev. Beall had a 30 year career in textiles with plants including those owned by West Point Pepperell, Callaway Mills, and Cowikee of Comer in Avondale. He was also the former owner of West Point Farmer Supply, Hogansville Farmer Supply, the IGA Food Store in Hogansville, Kings Kastle Restaurant and Kastle Inn Motel in Woodbury, and Tedders Motel in Savannah.

Rev. Beall was an ordained Southern Baptist Bi-Vocational Minister for 50 years, pastoring many churches all over Alabama and Georgia, locally including Franklin Road Baptist, Concord Baptist, Hilyer Baptist, Shoal Creek Baptist, Union Baptist at St. Marks and Mountville Baptist, as well as serving as Interim Pastor at many others. He was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square, and the Pilot Sunday School Class. Rev. Beall was also at 33rd Degree Mason.

Rev. Beall was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Maidee Gilbert Beall.

He is survived by his children, Dottie Beall Hulett of LaGrange and Bobby and Brenda (O’Neal) Beall of Alvaton; grandchildren, U.S. Army Capt. Shannon Ross and Leigh Ann (Champion) Beall of Newnan, Taylor Ross ‘TR’ and Aimee (Aldred) Hulett of Cedar Falls, IA, Benjamin Matthew ‘Benjy’ Hulett of LaGrange, and Brent O’Neal Beall of Statesboro; great-grandchildren, Cameron Jackson Hulett, Carter Drayton Hulett, and Collier Luke Ross Hulett of Cedar Falls, IA, and Shannon Ross ‘Shae’ Beall, Jr. of Newnan; nieces, Allene Pearson Todd of LaGrange, Agnes Pearson Walton and Alice Pearson Garner, both of Woodbury; nephews, Young Allen Beall of Savannah and Thomas Keller Beall of Columbia, SC; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel with Dr. Paul R. Baxter and Rev. Paul Blair officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillview East Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Pine Mountain Animal Rescue or the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society in memory of Rev. Ross Beall.
