Tamlin Hall, a LaGrange native, was one of the 35 writers who were recently recognized at the 38th Annual HUMANITAS Awards Luncheon in Beverly Hills, Calif. Hall received the David and Lynn Angell Fellowship Award in Comedy Writing for his script for a comedy plot called “Young.”

Hall, a graduate of LaGrange High School and a 2002 graduate of the University of Georgia, is now doing his graduate work from the University of California, Los Angeles, in film and television. Hall was nominated for this award in July and was presented the award at the HUMANITAS Awards Luncheon on Sept. 14, at the Montage Beverly Hills.

The HUMANITAS Prize was created 38 years ago to honor television and film writers for telling stories, which truly and deeply explore the human experience in a way that both entertains and delights.

The David and Lynn Angell Fellowship was created to honor the couple that were killed in the first plane to hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2011. David was a prolific writer and producer, beginning his career on the staff of “Cheers” and going on to co-create “Wings” and “Frasier.” Lynn provided the opportunity for David to pursue his writing by working as an educator and librarian.

“HUMANITAS exists to shine a light on writers that must be heard and stories that must be told.” said HUMANITAS President Tom Fontana.

“It is our great pleasure to acknowledge these finalists—all incredible writers who passionately embrace the challenge of telling meaningful stories filled with memorable and compelling characters. This is an extraordinary achievement and one to be proud of.”

Hall, one of the only two students who were presented with HUMANITAS Awards this fall, is among some famous individuals who have previously been given this honor.

Previous winners of the HUMANITAS Prize have included: Steve Levitan (“Modern Family,” “Frasier”); Ryan Murphy (“GLEE”); Robert and Michelle King (“The Good Wife”); Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (“Good Will Hunting”); Steve Zaillian (“Schindler’s List”); David Shore (“HOUSE”); Aaron Sorkin (“The West Wing”); Tim Robbins (Dead Man Walking); Jason Katims (“Friday Night Lights”); Steve Bochco (“Hill Street Blues,” “NYPD Blue”) and many others.
