Election affecting my health

Dear Editor,

I have come to the conclusion that this upcoming election has affected my health.

This is the most important election of our lifetime! Never before have so many national issues been on the table. The uninformed, the “don’t cares,” or the ones who have fallen into the mindless mind-set that being successful (Mitt Romney) is an evil thing, and of course the ones that say: “I still haven’t made up my mind.”

If I could have a calm conversation with one of these people I would ask that person the following questions:

• Have you been out of the country for the last four years?”

• “How in God’s name could you still be undecided on who to vote for?” (At this point I would go over all the points that the person either didn’t know, didn’t care about, or was to stubborn to acknowledge.)

Two things I worry about in a nationally televised debate: (1) The Liberal Moderator giving support to Obama. (2) The Democrat simply making up things. I’m not talking about an honest mistake, I’m talking about making stuff up, that the uninformed will believe and the Main Stream Media will let him get away with. Barack Obama was friends with Bill Ayers, a known terrorists! The media doesn’t care, the Hollywood elite don’t care and the severely uninformed don’t even know. Rich Simpson

Rich,

My health has been affected too - my mental health. I'm afraid to put an Obama sign on my lawn or a sticker on my car because some Republicans scare me. I don't want to subject myself to their narrow-minded vitriol.

Now, to respond to other specific parts of your letter. The third sentence of your second paragraph...well, it isn't a sentence. You have all those subjects "the uninformed," "the ones" (x2), but no predicate. What about them? I'm longing to know!

You say you would have a calm conversation with the (implied) idiots, and yet the two questions you pose smack of snide arrogance.

If you're going to accuse the President of making things up, at least give some verifiable examples, please. And what do you really know about the Ayers / Obama "friendship"? By both of their accounts, they have socialized before but they have never had a really close friendship. And Ayers' violent activism took place during Vietnam when he was quite young; he and Obama certainly weren't hobnobbing then. In his more mature years Ayers has apologized and is now a respected college professor. This is just another example of haters grabbing onto a half-baked scare tactic to discredit our President (why many folks decided to despise him from Day 1 is beyond me; the only answer I can come up with is latent racism), about whom so little dirt has been dug up that people have to manufacture scandals (He's not an American! He's a Muslim!) to discredit him. Why do some see him as such a threat? I've heard that he's "un-American" and "ruining our country" -- back these claims up with facts, please!

Thanks for stoking the fires of Obama-hate in our town. Aren't there people in Stone Mountain who'll listen to you?
