Mrs. Alberta Mary Lee Woods McMillion of LaGrange passed away Sunday. Mrs. McMillion, affectionately known as “Mrs. Mack”, was born October 26, 1932 in Blaney, SC. She was the daughter of the late William Roosevelt Woods and Jannie Reaves Woods. She was a graduate of Spelman College and received the Master’s Degree in Education from West Georgia College. Her career as a teacher began at Soperton High School, Soperton, Georgia and later at Ethel W. Kight High School and Troup County High School where she retired after 30 years.

“Mrs. Mack” was a lifelong, loyal and dedicated member of Warren Temple United Methodist Church. There, she served in many capacities including Financial Committee Chairperson, member of W. T. Worshippers, Communion Steward, and church secretary. She was a member of Theta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc where she was honored as Soror of The Year in 1993 and recipient of the Jarvis M. Shepherd Award in 1994.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 47 years, Joe L. McMillion; two daughters, Cheri Etita Johnson (Jerald), Charlotte, NC; Jawaun Lanee Hicks (Sylvester), Marietta, GA; stepdaughter, Debra Hester Moss (Moses), Miami, FL; eight grandchildren: Jaleesa Johnson, Jonathon Hicks, Sierra Hicks, Timika Hester, Broderick Hester, Thomas Hester, Everett Hester, Ernest Hester; four sisters-in-law: Lois Zorn, Cecila Booth, Larryetta Ellis, and Raynetta Dye; two brothers-in-law: Darryl McMillion and John McMillion Jr.; special god-brother, Arthur “Pete” Graves (Fran), Land of Lakes, FL; two special god-daughters, Karla Hall and Linda Woodyard; many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James William Woods. The Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 1:00PM at the Warren Temple United Methodist Church. Dr. Sherry Austin will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7 until 8 and will be at their home at 752 Matthews Street.

It is the request of the family that all flowers be omitted. Those desiring may make contributions to the Marquis Fund of the Warren Temple United Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. McMillion.
