The Troup Tigers, meanwhile, have some work left to do.
Callaway will be heading to state as the top seed out of Region 4-AAA after clinching the region championship with Thursday’s 54-16 victory over Douglass.
LaGrange will be the number three or number two seed out of Region 5-AAAA.
The Grangers clinched a playoff spot with Friday’s 35-20 victory over Troup, followed by Shaw’s 34-23 win over Fayette County on Saturday.
If LaGrange beats Carrollton in Thursday’s regular-season finale, it will be the region’s number two seed. If the Grangers lose that game, they’ll be seeded third.
LaGrange (5-4 overall) improved to 4-2 in the region with the win over Troup.
Carrollton (6-3) fell to 5-1 in the region after falling to Sandy Creek on Friday.
As for Troup, it’s a simple-enough scenario.
Troup and Shaw will meet at Kinnett Stadium Friday night, and the winner of the game will be the region’s number four seed, while the loser will miss the playoffs.
Both teams bring identical 3-3 region records into the game.
Troup head coach Lynn Kendall said his team would be happy to be in the playoffs, wherever it’s seeded.
“Now we’re looking at battling to get in. And I’ll tell you what. Getting in is better than not getting in,” Kendall said. “I don’t care if you have to travel or whatever.”
Callaway will be the region’s number one seed regardless of what happens Friday night against Rockmart, but head coach Pete Wiggins said the team will be fully focused on beating the Yellow Jackets.
“We love playing at home at Callaway Stadium,” Wiggins said. “Our kids love the Sprint Turf. It means a lot to us. But we have another big week next week against Rockmart, and that’s our next step right now. We’ll talk about (the playoffs) later. We’ll talk about it down the road.”
Still, it is always special to win a region title.
“I’m real proud of our kids and our coaching staff,” Wiggins said. “I appreciate all the folks involved with Callaway football.”
