The LaGrange Grangers have been a dynamic scoring team this season, putting up more than 30 points a game in the regular season.

The question was, would the Grangers be able to keep up that pace during the playoffs?

Through one game, the answer is a resounding yes.

The Grangers found the end zone eight times, and they also added a field goal en route to a 59-46 victory over Chestatee in a Class AAAA first-round game in Gainesville Friday night.

Five of those touchdowns came via LaGrange’s explosive offense, and three of them came on defense, with Demoton Boyd providing two of those scores with interception returns.

LaGrange will visit Ridgeland next week in a second-round game.

The Grangers were looking for their first playoff win since 2008, and they made it happen by putting up a basketball-type score.

LaGrange struck first, with Boyd getting his night started with a 62-yard touchdown run, and the two-point conversion made it an 8-0 game.

After Chestatee responded with a touchdown and two-point conversion, the Grangers came right back to take the lead on a 73-yard touchdown run by Benny Gray, and it was a 14-8 game.

Gray added a 1-yard touchdown run later in the quarter, and the Grangers led 21-8 heading into the second quarter.

After Chestatee scored, Gray’s 1-yard touchdown run put LaGrange back on top 27-15.

A defensive touchdown capped the first-half scoring.

LaGrange defensive lineman Joe Sanders forced a fumble, and he scooped the ball up and raced 37 yards for the touchdown.

The two-point conversion gave LaGrange a 35-15 lead at the half.

Following a Chestatee touchdown, Michael Ward extended the lead to 38-22 with a 30-yard field goal midway through the third quarter.

Boyd then picked off a pass and went 30 yards for the touchdown, and LaGrange carried a 46-22 lead into the fourth quarter.

With the lead down to 46-30, LaGrange quarterback Zach Giddens found wide receiver Dee Smith for an 83-yard touchdown pass, and the lead was 52-30.

Boyd capped the scoring for LaGrange with a 45-yard interception return, making it a 59-38 game.

Chestatee scored a touchdown in the final minute to complete the scoring.
