Shoppers began their pre-Thanksgiving shopping in downtown LaGrange Sunday afternoon, with the annual Downtown LaGrange Holiday Open House event.

The event kicked off at 1 p.m and shoppers were eager to find some goodies.

Many local and traveling shoppers chose Open House to do their shopping as opposed to Black Friday, due to the sales and larger selection of items.

Becky Sims, a Tennessee resident, visits LaGrange frequently and has been shopping during Open House for the past three years.

“I come looking for good shopping and good deals.” said Sims. “Shopping now is better than after Thanksgiving because everything has been picked over. Sometimes I find better deals during Open House.”

Shoppers even got a taste of goodies at restaurants downtown. Cakes by Debbie, had an unexpected surplus of business on Sunday. Mark Barronton, who occasionally helps run the business, said that Open House has brought in a lot of people this year.

“What we have done in business today, is what the business would normally see on our busiest days Friday and Saturday.” said Barronton.

A few other boutiques and stores downtown offered small gifts with purchase and greats savings of up to 40 percent off. The next big shopping day for downtown LaGrange will be the Candlelight Holiday Shopping event on Dec. 1st, where shops will be staying open later for a day of festive shopping.
