LaGrange College has partnered with LaGrange Academy this year for its annual effort to provide toys and other items for needy families.
Items will be distributed to the already-chosen families this week.
Representatives of LaGrange College and LaGrange Academy’s service club, The Next Thing, say combined efforts will benefit 96 local youth in the surrounding area.
The Rev. Quincy Brown, vice president of spiritual life and church relations at LaGrange College, applauded the efforts of the students at both schools, and the assistance of local school counselors to work together to serve the community generously and enthusiastically with the annual project.
“Christmas presents a wonderful opportunity to offer a hand up to families who may be finding themselves in unfortunate circumstances for the first time and it is a joy and an honor to help,” he said.
Gail Rachmuth, who serves as faculty adviser to TNT at Lagrange Academy, said the group is a girl’s service club.
“We were originally the Anchor Club, but we disbanded when the ladies Pilot Club that sponsored us was no longer here in LaGrange. We blew up the Anchor and became TNT – The Next Thing,” she said.
“We have a self-contained club at the academy and work within the school and with the community on service projects,” Rachmuth said. “We have collected canned foods for the food closet, sent shoe boxes for children, worked with the Boys & Girls Club on Christmas parties here at the school, collected money for March of Dimes and Pennies For Patients.
“Our biggest day at School is Valentine’s Day, when we sell, wrap and deliver over 20 dozen flowers and several hundred lollipops within the school. We are always looking for community projects to help with, and we loved collecting toys for the partnership with LaGrange College.”
