Troup went 3-2 in the event and may have done better had all team members participated.
Coach Chris Mitchem reported there were 10 athletes unable to wrestle most out with the flu.
Team captain Michael Mackfield, who had been ill all week, returned to school on Friday, but did not wrestle.
“The flu that’s going around is just killing us,” Mitchem said. “Hopefully we’ll have everybody back this week.”
Troup defeated Lamar County 54-30, lost to Spencer 52-27, defeated Brookstone 58-24, lost to Jordan 50-30 and defeated Carver of Columbus 63-21.
“I was proud because we had a lot of varsity guys out and we still performed nicely,” Mitchem said. “I’m just glad we’re seeing constant improvement. Hopefully we’ll peak at the end of the season.”
Some highlights from Saturday included:
126 pounds – Dakota Wilson, went 4-1 including three forfeits and one win on points.
138 pounds – Adam Love went 5-0 all by pins.
152 pounds – Jederrious Smith went 2-1 with two pins.
160 pounds – John Williamson went 3-2 with two pins and a win on points.
170 pounds – John Meacham went 2-0 including one win by forfeit.
170 pounds – Jonathan Scott went 3-0 all by pins.
182 pounds – Tanius Harris went 3-1 with two pins and a forfeit.
195 pounds – Cassidy Darden went 5-0 including four pins and a forfeit.
220 pounds – Hudson Newton went 3-2 with two pins and a forfeit.
285 pounds – Craig Moore went 1-0 on a pin.
285 pounds - Mitch Mathes went 3-1 with two pins and a forfeit.
The Tigers are back in action again at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday hosting a three way meet with Callaway and Fayette County.
