Mr. Garnet Lay of LaGrange passed away Friday at West Georgia Health.
Mr. Lay, a native of Troup County, was born September 18, 1937 and was the son of the late Douglas and Sarah Nelson Laye. He was a graduate of Ethel W. Kight High School. He was retired from McArthur Dairy Company in Miami, Florida after 25 years of continuous service. He was also retired from ISI in LaGrange. He was an Army veteran with an honorable discharge from the Airborne Division.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Lizzie Bartley Lay; children: Montest (Carlton) Cameron, Gaylord Lay, both of LaGrange; Tanya Pasley, Antwan (Marcia) Lay, Dena Lashawn Lay, and Michael Bothuelle, all of Miami, FL; god child, Jakayla Bartley, LaGrange; daughter-in-law, Kim Lay, Miami, FL; three siblings: William (Gwendolyn) Lay, Mary Frances Glenn and Margaret Patterson, all of LaGrange; brother-in-law, Lonnie Bartley, Fort Valley, GA; sisters-in-law: Christine (Ronald) Tigner, LaGrange; Mary (Buford) Jennings, Birmingham, AL; Linda Bartley, Mary Frances Lay, both of LaGrange; Annice Lay, Aliquippa, PA; sixteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Garnet Lay, Jr; and three siblings: Charlie, Wilbert and Douglas Lay Jr.
The Homegoing Service will be Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 1:00PM at the Smyrna Baptist Church, 3233 Mooty Bridge Road. Rev. Michael Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in the Shadowlawn Cemetery with military honors.
The family will be at their home at 627 Smoot Street.
