LaGrange’s new senior planner, who started work here Jan. 9, says she’s happy to be working for the city where she lives.

“It’s great to work for the city you live in,” Leigh Threadgill said. “I can do something positive for the community where I live. Quality growth is important and I look forward to being a part of that.”

Threadgill has 10 years of planning experience, the last being in Berkley Lake, a small town near Duluth. There, she basically had to start a planning department and create plans for the city from scratch.

LaGrange is, thankfully, miles ahead of that, she said.

“LaGrange has a great existing infrastructure,” she said. “I’m glad to have that framework to work in.”

Threadgill is an Atlanta native who worked in Wilmington, N.C., for four years before returning to the state. While in Wilmington, she and her family lived on property that included part of the set for the show “Dawson’s Creek.”

Threadgill moved to LaGrange in June with her family. Her husband Rix is pastor of Loyd Presbyterian Church.

Most of her new duties at City Hall will be a lot of what Community Development Director Alton West has been doing on his own: rezoning, special use permits, code amendments and site plan reviews for developments.

“I’m trying to learn the landscape and get familiar with the codes,” she said.

City Manager Tom Hall initially had proposed LaGrange hire a planner in the 2012 budget sessions last year. He said a planner who could specialize in grant writing was “sorely needed.”

“Leigh brings an excellent background and education to her role here with the city,” Hall said. “We have tremendous opportunities for growth and investment here in LaGrange, but we want to make sure we get it right and grow our community in a positive way. Leigh’s skill set will help us make that happen.”

What a waste. This is the reason taxes are so high you pay for more people brought in from outside to tell us what we are suppose to want here. This lady knows nothing of the wants and needs of LaGrange. Basically, what it boils down to is her husband used his position as pastor of a large church here in LaGrange to get her a pointless job. I can promise you this in 10 years LaGrange will be in a worse position and they still will not have built a Target, new resturaunts, or the shopping center thats suppose to be off I-85 between Whitesville Rd and Hamilton Rd that we have been hearing about for years.
