The Troup County Sheriff’s Office has the Nixle program up and running again.
The Nixle is a community information service that allows officers to create and publish messages that are delivered to subscribed residents instantly via text message and/or email; notifications can also be accessed online at the Nixle website at www.nixle.com
Messages may include alerts for missing and wanted persons, weather, community meetings, major road closures and other relevant safety and community information. The service is secure, reliable and free. Users can also choose an option that allows alerts specific to their neighborhoods up to within a .25 mile radius and can also decide from which local agencies they want to receive alerts from by email, text, or on the web.
TCSO says Nixle is a more secured and trusted communication service than Facebook and Twitter, though it is built on the same foundations.
Residents of Troup County and neighboring communities can immediately begin receiving alerts by registering at www.nixle.com. A Nixle test message was sent last week for those who were previously signed up; Those who did not receive the test message need to sign up again.
The TCSO facebook page is also back up to keep the community informed. You can “like” their facebook page at www.facebook.com/troupsheriff.
