The LaGrange Lady Grangers, after watching a fourth-quarter lead evaporate in a loss to Columbus on Saturday, got back on track with an impressive road win over Alexander on Tuesday.

In a Region 5-AAAA matchup, LaGrange rolled to a big early lead on the way to a 46-39 victory.

The Lady Grangers charged out to a 15-2 lead after the first quarter, but things tightened up from there and they led 26-17 at the half and 36-27 through three periods.

Brittany Tatum paced LaGrange with 17 points, Steara Mitchell contributed 12 points, and KaBrenna Smith had 11 points.

LaGrange improved to 16-4 overall, and 6-3 in region play.

In Tuesday’s boys’ game, the Grangers fell to the Cougars 70-53.

Alexander was up 13-6 after the first quarter, and it led 36-20 at the half and 57-34 through three periods.

Joe Sanders paced the Grangers with 18 points, and Baron Smith added 10 points.

The Grangers struggled from the get-go trying to get their offense in gear.

“It was four minutes into the game and it was 2-0,” LaGrange assistant coach Mark Veal said. “We just couldn’t get a basket to fall.”

The Grangers (15-5 overall) are now 5-4 in the region.

LaGrange’s teams will host Fayette County on Friday.
