We currently have around 15 active “volunteers” with our local Humane Society. There are many varied opportunities for anyone who cares about our little furry friends.
What is nice is that anyone who volunteers can decide to help in an area which they feel comfortable. We only have one part-time, paid employee, Marsha, with our Humane Society.
Volunteers can decide how much,or how little time, they want to be involved each month, and that they think they will enjoy helping at the Animal Shelter on Orchard Hill Drive in the LaGrange Industrial Park.
Some volunteers like to come to the shelter to exercise the doggies, some of us enjoy going with our Mobile Unit for Adoption Days to Wal-Mart/Tractors Supply/Big Lots a few Saturdays a month.
We can always use more volunteers with a truck to haul our Adoption Mobile Unit on Saturdays.
Volunteers carry some of our permanent shelter animals to local schools for education days, one of our volunteers bags food to carry to the Active Center for those seniors who have a real need. Some help by carrying our new animals to area vets to get their necessary shots when needed so they will be available for adoption. Believe it or not, some folks even enjoy helping Marsha with the paperwork.
Of course if you can’t volunteer as a nonprofit organization we always are in need of financial donations. Dog and cat food are always needed, as well as kitty litter and old towels are needed for the many kitties we have for adoption. We have our annual Humane Society Fur Ball each August, and have a fun Christmas party every year with a lot of wonderful, special people.
If you feel like you might have a few hours a month and want to help volunteer please call Marsha Schubert at 706- 298-3608 weekdays between 10:00- 4:00 pm.
