Fourteen combined wrestlers from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup will hit the mat today for the start of the state sectionals.
The goal for each of them is to do well enough to make it through to the state finals next weekend.
The LaGrange and Troup wrestlers will compete in the Class AAAA west sectional in Pickens County.
There’ll be 16 wrestlers in each weight class, and the top eight wrestlers in each class will advance to the state finals in Macon.
Callaway has one wrestler, Brandon Sutton, competing at the Class AAA west sectional in Ringgold, and he’ll be one of eight wrestlers in his division.
If Sutton finishes in the top four, he’ll make it through to the state finals.
LaGrange has the most state qualifiers among the local schools with eight.
Leading the way is Devonta Williams, who won an area championship at 220 pounds.
LaGrange’s other state participants are Qua Tucker (132 pounds), Hunter Richardson (152 pounds), Guy Wegienka (195 pounds), Emanuel Mann (285 pounds), Kane Shirey (113 pounds), Kyler Hall (138 pounds) and Logan Pitts (182 pounds).
Troup will have five state participants, including Michael Mackfield, who won an area championship at 195 pounds.
He’ll be joined at state by Adam Love (132 pounds), Cameron Cato (106 pounds), Tanius Harris (170 pounds) and Hudson Newton (220 pounds).
Sutton earned his spot at state by winning an area championship at 185 pounds.
