The Callaway Lady Cavaliers have played their way into the state tournament.

With Wednesday’s 54-35 victory over Jackson, the Lady Cavaliers have advanced to the semifinals of the Region 4-AAA tournament, and they’ve secured one of the region’s four invitations to the state tournament.

Next up will be Friday’s semifinal showdown against Central-Carroll, and the two teams will play at 4 p.m. at Douglass High in Atlanta.

Callaway (15-7) is the tournament’s number three seed, while Central-Carroll (20-5) is seeded second.

In Wednesday’s game, Callaway figured to have the upper hand after handily beating Jackson twice during the regular season, and the third meeting wasn’t any different.

The Lady Cavaliers were up 13-6 after the first quarter, 23-13 at the half and 38-24 through three periods and they continued to expand their lead in the final quarter.

Freshman Terriyunna Dunson led Callaway with 11 points, and Tanesha Johnson added eight points.

As for Friday’s game, Callaway and Central-Carroll will be playing for the third time this season.

The first game was competitive, with Central-Carroll winning 54-48.

In the second game, Central-Carroll rolled to a 59-29 victory after breaking open a close game in the third quarter.
