Home Helpers of Georgia and Alabama have moved their LaGrange office to Vernon Woods and now are offering residents a wellness concierge program.

An open house was held Feb. 15th to give the Vernon Woods’ residents an opportunity to meet the Home Helpers’ staff and to become familiar with what services the agency has available.

Beth Dow, the owner of Home Helpers, thinks that having the LaGrange office housed at Vernon Woods will be an asset to the residents.

“We have a number of free services that are designed for folks who live in independent facilities and who want to stay there,” Dow said. “The whole goal is to help independent seniors to stay healthy and to stay in their homes.”

Home Helpers offer Vernon Woods residents a number of free health services and have additional services that are available for a fee. The agency also provides home services for individuals throughout Troup County. Dow said that the majority of her clients are in their own homes throughout the county.

Fran Reeves’ 91 year-old mother, May Keith, broke her hip a month ago and was able to move back into her Vernon Woods home because of the assistance she is receiving from Home Helpers.

“Having her able to move back into her home is the greatest gift in the world. Her accident was much more than we anticipated. Home Helpers and Vernon Woods have made this possible,” Reeves said. “Mama’s health and happiness is what really matters.”

Keith, sitting in her wheel chair, was enjoying the open house and was welcomed back by both Vernon Woods’ residents and staff. Keisha Duncan who is Keith’s Home Helpers care partner, stayed close to her client, making sure that she was comfortable and wasn’t getting too tired. Besides Reeves, Keith’s daughter, Robbie Holt was also there to help celebrate her mother’s return home.

Among the guests who were attending the open house was Vernon Woods resident Carolyn McLachlan. She has been living at Vernon Woods for four years and appreciates Helping Hands moving in.

“This is really a good addition because you can come here from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. all week. There is always someone who will talk with you, give you information, weigh you and they all have wonderful personalities,” McLachlan said.

Along with owner Dow, wellness center coordinators Paige Casor and Deborah Yeager are available to offer residents help and advise.

“Besides health checks and advice we are also involved in a lot of hospitality events. We recently had a Mardi Gras party, a Valentine’s Day party and even a chili cook-off, we try to have two a month,” Casor said. ” We are having a cocktail hour on the 28th of this month.”

Casor said that she especially likes to give extra attention to new residents to help them adjust to their new home and environment.

Helping Hands’ Wellness Concierge program office is located at Vernon Woods’ Broad Street Commons.
