Louise Puckett Hamlin, 82, of 11044 Chipley Highway, Pine Mountain, Georgia, died on March 11, 2013, as the result of the stroke she suffered at home on March 9, 2013. She was born on her family’s Troup County farm, at Chipley (Pine Mountain), Georgia to W.P. and Frances Bass Puckett.
Mrs. Hamlin graduated from Chipley High School and married W. J. Hamlin. The Hamlin’s, well known as “Joe and Sister” to close friends and family, were devoted to each other and faithfully served their community, their family, their friends and each other with uncommon generosity throughout their lifetimes.
Life’s most enthusiastic participant, Mrs. Hamlin placed the needs of others first. Both she and Joe showered the children of her sister, Virgie Puckett McEwen and her husband Pat with love and affection. These children understood that when their parents answered “No”, there was just a matter of time before a trip to Pine Mountain would place their requests before Joe and Sister and their friends so that every childhood dream could come true. This tradition continued for three (3) generations. Thirteen (13) children of the McEwen Family, ages 2 – 65, lost their best friend when Mrs. Hamlin died.
Mrs. Hamlin was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, loved travel, and enjoyed employment at Farmer’s & Merchant’s Bank, Pine Mountain (later First Union, Wachovia and Wells Fargo) and Callaway Gardens. She retired at each company, and then joined First Peoples Bank, Pine Mountain, GA, in support of her community and friends.
She is survived by the host of loyal friends whom she loved and her family, William Atworth (Worth) Wilson (two years of age); John W. and Ellen G. McEwen, Gay, GA; Lamar P. and Jo Lynne P. McEwen, Fayetteville, GA; Nancy McEwen Moxley, Milton, FL; Joseph Patrick and Jennifer Baker McEwen, Atlanta, GA; Jerry L. and Kathleen McEwen Wilson (Worth’s parents), Raleigh, NC; Lauren Paige McEwen, Fayetteville, GA; Heather Ruth Moxley, Carrollton, GA; and Mark Andrew McEwen, Throckmorton, TX.
Friends will be received at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home, 506 Hill Street, LaGrange, GA on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM. We will celebrate Mrs. Hamlin’s life at Bethany Baptist Church, Pine Mountain, GA, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 14, 2013, with Rev. Joel Chapman and Rev. Fred Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow at the City Cemetery, Pine Mountain, GA. Please consider Bethany Baptist Church as you remember Mrs. Hamlin.
