Officers arrested four people at a Hogansville hotel on drug charges, including possession with intent to distribute.

According to a sheriff’s report, Deputy Jennifer Spivey of the Troup County Sheriff’s Office received a call that Stacy Echols, 27, of LaGrange, whom had an active warrant through the U.S. Marshals Service, was staying in a hotel room at the Garden Inn on Bass Cross Road. Spivey along with officers from the Hogansville Police Department responded to room 210 at the hotel about 8:50 p.m. on Friday to detain Echols.

A male, identified at Donald Courson, 38, was standing in front of the room when officers arrived, and Jerry Hammett, 39, of Hogansville was also seen exiting a vehicle parked near the room. They both stated that they were visiting a friend in the room, and Courson stated that his girlfriend, Ashley Keith, was inside the room.

Spivey knocked on the door and Keith, 27, of Hogansville, answered and stated that no one was in the room besides her. Spivey asked Keith for consent to search the room, in which Keith gave permission and pointed towards the bathroom door. Spivey asked if there were any illegal weapons in the room and Keith said that there was a lit marijuana blunt on the sink near the bathroom, the report said.

While walking towards the bathroom, Spivey gave verbal commands to whomever was in the bathroom to come out with their hands up. Echols walked out of the bathroom and allegedly admitted to having a warrant for her arrest. Echols was placed in handcuffs, and Spivey asked what was rolled in blunt on the sink, and Echols replied that it was marijuana, according to the report.

After a brief search of the hotel room, two sets of digital scales, a broken glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine, another glass pipe containing white residue, a clear plastic bag containing a leafy substance suspected to be marijuana and a clear plastic bag of a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine was discovered, the report said.

Keith and Echols were arrested due to them being inside the room upon officers’ arrival; Hammett and Courson were arrested after allegedly admitting that they had been in the hotel room throughout the day.

They were transported to the Troup County Jail and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug related objects. Echols and Hammett were also arrested on outstanding warrants.
