Mr. Grover Wilson Shumake was born February 18, 1919 in the Heard County, son of the late Mack Shumake and Ollie Folds Shumake. He had been employed as a Loom Fixer working many years at Callaway Mills and over 50 years with Parks and Recreation Department thru CEA. Mr. Shumake was a member of Trinity On The Hill United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He had served as Grandmaster of The Sweet Land of Liberty Parade four years ago. He was very active in all church activities, an avid fisherman and loved and enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Evelyn Shumake, of LaGrange; a daughter and son in law, Janice and Mike Cason of LaGrange, a son and daughter in law, Larry and Celeste Shumake of LaGrange, a daughter in law, Shelva and Greg Addison of LaGrange, five granddaughters, Susan Blackburn, Christina Cromer, Sandee (Chip) Campbell, Jennifer (Chris) Sprayberry, Amy (Casey) Hawkins. Two grandsons, Mark Shumake, and Dr. David (Amy) Cason, ten great grandchildren, Kyndall Cason, Molly Blackburn, Maddie Blackburn, Cason Blackburn, Colson Blackburn, Warren Duffy, Ben Cason, Leila and Dustin Campbell, Garrett Sprayberry. He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Shumake and 10 brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Mark Shumake, David Cason, Ben Cason, Colson Blackburn, Warren Duffy, Chip Campbell, and Chris Sprayberry.
Funeral services will be 4:00 Thursday at Trinity On The Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Meg Morrison, Rev. Max McCord and Dr. David Cason officiating. Interment will be at Shadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
