John David Abernathy, Sr. age 75 of Newnan passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Wedowee, AL. He was born on May 24, 1937 in Chambers County, AL to the late Henry S. Abernathy and Docia Gooden Abernathy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Mickie” Abernathy; sisters, Stella Pierce, Nellie Ruth Allen and brother, Vincent Abernathy. He retired from Delta Airlines after 31 years as a Material Expediter.

Mr. Abernathy is survived by his children, John David Abernathy, Jr. and his wife Sherri; Laurie Abernathy with Larry Andrews and Cyndi Hale and her husband Greg. grandchildren, Autumn Abernathy, Andrew Lee Hale, Nikki Hale and great grandchild, Amanda Lee Trinity Hale; sisters, Juanita Allen, Sara Yancey and Diann Nix and her husband Charles “Buddy”.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:00 am(Eastern Time) in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Pastor Ron Conger officiating. Entombment will be in Shadow Lawn Cemetery in LaGrange, GA. Visitation will be held Friday, January 25, 2013 from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm(Eastern Time) at McKoon Funeral Home.
