Mrs. Arnetha Civers Alford of LaGrange passed away Thursday at Hospice LaGrange.

Mrs. Alford, a native of LaGrange, was born September 16, 1932, and was the eighth child born to Frank and Rosie Williams Civers. She attended Ethel W. Kight High School and taught HeadStart at the Mountville School. In addition, she worked as a bus driver for the Troup County School System for 37 years and as a nurses aide at the Brian Center of Nursing Care for 18 years.

Mrs. Alford was a member of the Elizabeth Chapter No. 6 of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron, treasurer and secretary for many years. She was also a member of the Poinsettia Social Club.

“Neat,” as she was affectionately called, was a volunteer for the “Feed the Hungry” at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her annual Christmas Breakfast at her home was served for over 40 years.

Mrs. Alford was a loving and devoted member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, treasurer, usher and other auxiliaries of the church.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 36 years, Lee Morris Alford; her daughter, Mary Lee Mangrum; her sisters: Agnes Pierre (John), Martha Civers and Marie Cox (Willie); four brothers: Frank (Janie), Horace (Rudy), Thomas (Mae), Floyd Civers; grandson, Eric Mangrum; and sister-in-law, Virginia Copeland.

Survivors include her children: Joseph (“Joe”) and wife Lou Nell Alford, SGT MAJ (Ret) GSP SGT (Ret) Jerome (“Michael”) Alford, Donnie (“Elaine”) Dean and husband Russell, all of LaGrange; Arnetha Shelia Shipman and husband Thomas, Newport News, VA; Brazil (“Bruce”) and wife Rose Alford, LaGrange; two sisters: Mary A. Reese, Newnan; Rosie Y. Civers, LaGrange; Martha A. Strong (a niece whom she considered a dear sister); brother-in-law: Nelson Copeland Jr.; sister-in-law, Shirley Civers, all of LaGrange; grandchildren: Derald Alford, Lee M. Alford, LaNisha Rivers (Travis), Lutricia S. Jones, Keosha Alford, Jonathan Alford, Spencer Dean, Deion Dean, Thomas D. Shipman III, Christina A. Shipman, Amber and Diamante Alford; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, February 8, 2013, at 1:00PM at the Zion Hill Baptist Church, Bartley Road. Rev. Craig Ogletree will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at their home at 32 Hogg Mountain Road and will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 until 8.
