Learning to play as an adult costs money!

Sunset magazine is a very good read, and after having read the July issue I found that here are some of the adult camps you can go to and the amount of money you can expect to pay.

I hope you laugh as much as I did! Playing in the sand for four days, called Sand Casting, costs $770. Learning to run for four days, called Running Getaway, costs $399. Practical Distillation for six days, which is making home brew, is $3,500.

I would buy more insurance before I tried this next one for eight days at $1,990: Adult Skateboard Camp. My favorite by far costs $1,250 – all inclusive for three days of Cowboy College, learning how to play like a cowboy.

Just in case you want to try one of these camps, you can find more information in the July issue of Sunset magazine. When I learned to ride a horse, my dad put me on a horse, and when I got thrown from the horse, Robert Taylor picked me up, put me back up and said, “Hold on better this time!”

Guess what, if we were doing something bad back then Henry Neal or Mr. Taylor would have corrected our attitude and we would hope they did not tell dad. I’m just thinking back on how we learned to have fun – yes, we had a lot of fun!

Just maybe the best run charity in the world – the Salvation Army – what I like is that the leader does not get a large check for running the place – no Rolls Royce.

In fact, they have the track record of running lean and money going to people in need. In Troup County here is just some of what they do.

So far this year they have helped over 3,000 families. They have given away over 10,000 canned and boxed goods for families with food assistance needs. Over 5,000 clothing items have been given, more than 70 families helped with furniture and, of course, the big one – toys and clothing at Christmas for children.

They have a Christian based camp in Jasper, Georgia, for kids. This last one has a big place in my heart – they visited over 9,000 people in nursing homes.

Our message is based on the Bible, all done under a Christian mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

I am asking that if you have a few dollars to spare give it to the Salvation Army because it is greatly needed. If you have a car that you would like to donate, we need it. If you have gym equipment that is being used to hang your clothes, we need it.

Think of how you can make a difference, because we need your help. Join me so we can make a difference. When you give, you’re doing what Jesus would want you to do.

Our government, with all their wisdom, wants to protect us some more.

Now that we have a new group in Washington, and no one with any experience helping the people, they will now protect the people. On Oct. 1, 2015, we will have new closing statements if you are borrowing money to buy a house.

The statement will go from three pages to five pages. The bottom line today is that I have closed loans from start to finish in 21 days with 28 days being the norm. However, I am being told to look for 60 to 90 day closing after Oct. 1.

Our forgotten, poor old buyer will be having more costs. The banks will have to charge more – I am guessing $300 at least – and the lawyer’s work has just gotten much bigger, so I am guessing $200 to $400 there.

So, let’s see, we are adding 30 days to closing and $400 to $600 more cost. Yeah, the people from Washington are helping as usual.
