Police responded to a call from a woman who said someone broke into a vacant home in the 200 block of Brown Street and stole appliances from inside.

The homeowner told police she noticed that it had been broken into when she arrived Tuesday to do renovations. The burglar apparently entered through a back door and stole the washer, dryer, water heater, stove and refrigerator from the home, she reported. Stolen items were valued at a total $1,300.

Attempted break-in at residence

A couple told police that their home on Park Hill Drive had been the target of an attempted burglary. The homeowner said his wife discovered damage to the home’s window and kitchen door, which officers said appeared to be from someone attempting to use a screwdriver to pry them open.

The couple reported that their neighbor told them a white SUV was in front of the residence and had slowly passed by days before the attempted break-in.

Shoplifters take children’s drinks

Employees at Walmart on New Franklin Road reported two young males took two boxes of Pedialyte, a re-hydrating drink for children, on Tuesday. The thieves opened the boxes and stashed the contents in their pockets as they walked around the store, then left in a gold Mercury Grand Marquis, employees told police.
