LaGRANGE — Three people were transported to West Georgia Medical Center following a crash on Commerce Avenue at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver who police said caused the crash, identified as Dexter E. Parks, 20, was taken to West Georgia Medical Center and treated. After his release from the hospital, he was arrested and taken to Troup County Jail on charges of driving on a suspended license and failure to yield, according to a LaGrange police report.

The man was driving a black Dodge Neon when he pulled out of Horace King Street onto Commerce Avenue in front of an eastbound purple Honda sedan, according to police.

“Apparently, the driver of the Neon didn’t see the driver on Commerce Avenue and ended up pulling out in front of her,” said officer Clint Gibson of the LaGrange Police Department.

Both drivers and a male passenger in the Honda were transported to West Georgia Medical Center after complaining of neck and back pain, Gibson said.

“I hope he’s okay, he said his neck is really hurting,” said a woman at the scene who said she knew Parks. “He was in a lot of pain when they pulled him out of the car.”

Emergency crews worked to clear the scene of debris on the busy street during rush hour traffic.

“The impact turned the Neon almost completely around,” said Gibson. “Once it went past the stop sign, it never saw the Honda traveling down Commerce.”

Police arrested the driver of the Dodge Neon after he was discharged from the hospital.
