LaGrange police detectives this morning were still investigating a bizarre armed robbery that allegedly took place at the Quality Inn at 1511 Lafayette Parkway.

Officers responded to the hotel Tuesday morning around 4 after a man claimed he and two female friends were robbed by two women and two men armed with handguns.

The man told police he met up with the two females he knew only as “Sunshine” and “Summer” at the hotel. He said a short time after they arrived, he noticed one of the girls texting on her phone and there was a knock at their hotel room door. The victim said when he opened the door there were two males wearing dark hoods and each was carrying a handgun.

According to the victim the males then stole his Note 4 cell phone valued at $400.

The man’s other two friends, both females, gave slightly different versions of the story. One of the female victims said one of the other women had a gun and threatened to shoot her. She then stole the victim’s purse and Kyocera Metro PCS cellphone with a total value of $150.

The other female victim told police the male suspects also stole her purse, makeup and hair-care products.

Toddlers allegedly found playing in road

LaGrange police responded to a call that two children who appeared to be about 2 years old were playing in the road at North Greenwood Street and Mitchell Avenue with no adult supervision about 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The reporting officer said one child was wearing only a diaper and shirt and the other a T-shirt and shorts with no shoes.

The officer said he believed the children belonged to a woman in the 100 block of Mitchell Avenue. The officer, a detective and officials from the Department of Family and Children Services responded to the home.

The officer wrote in his report that the front door of the woman’s home was open, and he announced himself several times, but there was no answer. The officer entered the home and found the 19-year-old mother asleep in a bedroom with a newborn, according to the report, and she jumped up and began yelling about where her children were “and that she was about to tear their butts up,” the report states.

The officer noted this was about 30 minutes after the witness had called about the children being in the road.

The report states that the mother “blamed the children for getting out and never thought she did any(thing) wrong, even though she admitted to having the responsibility of watching them.”

The mother was issued a citation for a municipal violation of parental responsibility to supervise.

Burglar takes food

A resident of the 100 block of Fendig Street reported to LaGrange police Tuesday that someone apparently climbed into her home through a window and took about $75 worth of food. The victim told the reporting officer it was the second burglary in two days at the home.

The officer said he checked with neighbors, but none said they saw or heard anything suspicious.

Diamond ring reported stolen

A woman reported that someone stole her Tiffany diamond golden ring valued at more than $5,000 from her apartment on Broad Street. The victim said she noticed the ring missing in August, but initially thought she misplaced it. She suspected a worker who entered her apartment to repair a light fixture may have taken it.

Forgery

An employee of CharterBank reported that a woman opened an account with a check for $1,994 in her bank account and then withdrew $500 cash and later withdrew the full amount from her account. A few days later, the check was returned to the bank as forged.
