COLUMBUS — Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office announced this week they recently helped recover numerous firearms stolen during a burglary and charged the man accused of committing the crime.

Shavon Green, 22, of Columbus, was charged with burglary in the first degree said Capt. Mike Caldwell, sheriff’s chief investigator.

Caldwell stated the sheriff’s department worked with detectives in Columbus and determined Green was in possession of numerous stolen firearms taken from a home in the western part of Troup County on Oct. 22.

The weapons included high quality rifles and shotguns, Caldwell reported.

According to Caldwell, Green told investigators he provided stolen vehicles to gang members so they could commit various crimes such as drive by shootings, home invasions and burglaries. Caldwell would not elaborate if any of those violent acts occurred in Troup County.

Green also allegedly said he received money from the gang members after he sold the stolen property in Muscogee County and elsewhere, Caldwell stated.

Officials said Green is held in an adjoining county jail and will be booked into Troup County custody at a later date.

Caldwell said sheriff’s investigators were able to recover the weapons and return them to the victims.

He also stated additional arrests are pending.
