Drug Arrest
LaGrange Police Department’s Special Investigation Unit arrested one man Friday night after they intercepted him allegedly traveling to sell drugs.
According to Sgt. Mark Cavender, head of SIU, the team received information that a man, identified as Rustin Freeman, 37, would be driving in a particular truck going down Swift Street around 10:50 p.m. to sell a quantity of methamphetamine.
“We sat there and waited on vehicle to approach. We stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver and passenger,” stated Cavender. “Freeman was the passenger. We smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the truck.”
Cavender said just as they pulled the truck over, investigators observed Freeman stuffing something in the passenger seat of truck.
When the team went back to search the vehicle, they found less than a ounce of suspected marijuana and 3.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine. When investigators searched Freeman, they allegedly discovered a glass container with 20 prescription Xanax bars -—whole one milligram pills and pieces of pills, Cavender stated.
Freeman was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of a schedule-4 controlled substance with the intent to distribute and possession of marijuana.
Cavender said the driver was not arrested and released at the scene.
