LAGRANGE – For the third straight year, a new high-school football season will kick off with the Callaway Cavaliers and LaGrange Grangers mixing it up at Callaway Stadium.

The schedules for all of the teams in the state were revealed on Wednesday by the Georgia High School Association.

On the local front, the 2016 season will begin on Aug. 19, with LaGrange playing Callaway, and Troup visiting Hardaway

LaGrange and Troup will also continue their long-time rivalry next season, and this year they’ll be playing as members of the same region.

LaGrange and Troup, part of the new look Region 5-AAAA, will play on Oct. 14.

Callaway and Troup, who had met every year since 2008, will not be playing this season.

LaGrange and Troup will both play four games before jumping into their region schedules.

Callaway, which will be dropping down a classification, will play five games before beginning its Region 5-AA schedule.

Some games of note include a Sept. 9 showdown between East Coweta and LaGrange at Callaway Stadium.

That game will mark the return to Callaway Stadium for Steve Pardue, the long-time coach at LaGrange High, who is now at East Coweta.

During his time at LaGrange, Pardue won state championships in 2001, 2003 and 2004.

On Sept. 30, LaGrange and Cedartown will play, and that will be a rematch of the 2001 state-championship game won by the Grangers.

Callaway will be crossing the state line for one of its games when it visits Handley, Ala. on Aug. 26, and it will also resume its rivalry with Heard County on Oct. 13, and they’ll be in the same region this year.

Troup’s schedule includes region road games against two of the state’s top programs, Sandy Creek and Cartersville.

Sandy Creek has won multiple state championships in recent years, and Cartersville won a state title in 2015.
