HOGANSVILLE — Law enforcement officials spent hours Wednesday searching areas of Hogansville after a man led them on a high-speed chase and wrecked a vehicle.
A Georgia State Patrol trooper was scanning cars on Interstate 85 in Newnan Wednesday morning when he went to pull over a speeding vehicle, according to Georgia State Patrol. Another car, a southbound black Chevrolet Camaro, that was passing then accelerated to apparently get away from the trooper’s cruiser, and the trooper went after the Camaro.
State patrol officials said the vehicle went more than 140 mph during the chase, which exited I-85 at Hogansville. The chase continued to state Highway 54, where the Camaro passed oncoming traffic, which the trooper could not do and lost sight of the speeding vehicle as it turned onto East Boyd Road.
The Camaro apparently ran off the road and crashed in a ditch at Mountville-Hogansville Road, and a witness said the driver got out and fled.
LaGrange Police Officer Wendy Bryant and her K9, Chico, were called out to help track the driver, who had not been found as of Thursday morning.
State patrol has not identified the suspect. Troopers did find a gun in the vehicle.
Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
