Columnist: Saying thank you to law enforcement

Who are the people that no one says “thank you” to? People with a badge!
We at First Realty of LaGrange Inc. do more than say “Thanks,” we give them a great meal and we have lots of door prizes. We make it a very special day and have been doing this for years.
One officer today said he had been coming 18 years. I do not remember when we started doing this. It was made special today (Tuesday) by the delicious barbecue, slaw and stew from The Sloppy Pig Catering. Best meal in a long time!
This year it got even more special in that my son’s company, Principle Construction, was named Small Business of the Year at Chamber of Commerce Breakfast this morning. Not bad from some Auburn men!
My son, Jay, helped as a young man on many civic Kiwanis projects and his company is now co-sponsor of the Law Enforcement Luncheon. This confirms the project will be going on for years to come.
Special guests today were Mr. and Mrs. Will Oubre. They were made “High Sheriffs of the Day” by our Sheriff James Woodruff.
Special thanks goes to Lee’s Crossing Tires and Service LLC, which gave the first 100 people through the door a free oil change in memory of his wife, Aliska Baker, who recently died.
Terry Baker, owner of the store, said, “You cannot thank the law officers enough.”
We were pleased to have door prizes given by Chick-Fil-A, Harris Gray, Dukes Electric, The Center for Mindful Exploration, McDonald Oil Company, Longhorn Steakhouse, Full Metal Jacket, Hog Heaven, Charlie Joseph’s, Zaxby’s, Kemp’s Carpets, Smoke Stop Vape Shop, Southern carts, Fokker Aerotron, Gordy’s Hardware, Emory at LaGrange, Ideal Electric, Morpower, Nesper International, Sims Pond Farms, Renasant Bank and CharterBank.
Thank you to all our law enforcement officers and those who support them to make their lives a little easier each day.
