LaGRANGE — A Hogansville man is recovering in an area hospital after allegedly being stabbed by an acquaintance in the 1000 block of Riverside Drive about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The suspect, identified as Christian A. Juarez, 26, of Hogansville, was arrested and taken to the Troup County Jail, stated Capt. Michael Caldwell, chief investigator with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, whose name was not released, had been fighting off and on with Juarez throughout the night at various locations, Caldwell said.

Juarez and the victim were driving to visit an acquaintance who lived on Riverside Drive when the argument escalated. That is when Juarez allegedly pulled out a knife and started stabbing the victim.

The man managed to get out of the car and ran from home to home, screaming for help while Juarez continued to stab him, Caldwell stated. The suspect then slashed the victim’s throat, nicking his carotid artery.

A homeowner opened their door and started to render aid to the victim while someone called 911, said Caldwell.

The victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, according to Caldwell.

Juarez was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remained in the Troup County Jail Wednesday evening awaiting a bond hearing.
