GRANTVILLE — Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith announced Tuesday night that his agency made several arrests for the home invasion and assault of an elderly woman whom the assailants set on fire Thursday in the 7700 block of Forrest Road.

The sheriff’s department and other agencies arrested three people believed to be connected to the home invasion and a prior theft of the same victim’s purse on Aug. 2, Smith said in a release.

“Our investigators and supporting agencies have been interviewing witnesses and developing leads related to this case investigation since it occurred,” Smith states in the release. “Through their efforts they were able to gather information related to those persons who were possibly involved.”

Some of the people were in Troup and Coweta counties, the press release states, and the sheriff’s office gathered information and evidence leading to the arrests of Justin Peirce Grady, 38, and Cortavious Deshun Heard, 18, both of Grantville, and Shanquavious Keontrell Cameron, 17, of Hogansville.

Grady and Heard were previously employed at the site of the home invasion, sheriff’s officials said. They face charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, armed robbery, arson, burglary, cruelty to a person 65 or older and battery. Cameron faces charges of being party to the crimes alleged against Grady and Heard.

In the Aug. 2 theft, Grady faces charges of conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit financial transaction card theft and conspiracy to commit identity theft. Heard and Cameron face charges of burglary, financial transaction card theft and identity fraud.

They were being held in jail without bond.

Smith said the investigation is ongoing and the sheriff’s department is seeking more people of interest and information about where the suspects may have stayed in Troup or Coweta counties. Additional arrests and charges are expected.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office at 706-672-4489 or the GBI at 404-244-2600, or 1-800-282-8746. Callers can remain anonymous.

“I appreciate the hard work that our personnel along with the supporting agencies have provided to make these arrests in this heinous crime,” Smith stated in a press release. “… I would like to thank the GBI Crime Scene Unit, Georgia Department of Community Supervision, Hogansville Police Department, LaGrange Police Department, Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and last, but not least, the Newnan Police Department, who helped us track some of these individuals down.”
