HAMILTON – They’re halfway to a perfect regular season.

The Callaway Cavaliers went on the road and beat Harris County 48-14 on Friday night, and they improved to 5-0 with five regular-season games remaining.

Callaway is off next week, and it will begin its Region 5-AA schedule on Oct. 7 at Lamar County.

In Friday’s game, Callaway struck first, with DJ Atkins scoring from about 13 yards out, and Noah Stephens made the first of his six extra point to make it a 7-0 game.

Harris County answered with a touchdown to tie it at 7-7, but Callaway came right back with a score of its own, with fullback Jibrell Jackson taking it in from one yard out and it was 14-7.

With seconds left in the first half, Braylon Sanders threw a 45-yard scoring pass to Courtney Williams to give Callaway a 21-7 lead, and that was the score at the break.

Atkins had a second scoring run early in the third quarter to extend Callaway’s lead to 28-7.

Harris County was then stopped on fourth down, and Callaway drove for another touchdown.

Atkins had a long run to the 1-yard line, and Tely Fanning scored on the next play, and Callaway was ahead 35-7.

Harris County scored a touchdown to get within 21, but Callaway came right back, with Atkins scoring on a 2-yard run to push the lead to 42-14.

Callaway freshman Cartavious Bigsby scored on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
