LAGRANGE – They’re hoping to finish on an up-note.

It has been a challenging season for the LaGrange College Panthers, who fell to 3-6 with last week’s 49-23 road loss to North Carolina Wesleyan.

LaGrange College will close its season today with a home game against Methodist (2-5), with kickoff set for 1 p.m.

LaGrange College got a road win over Greensboro on Oct. 6 to improve to 3-2, but it hasn’t won since.

LaGrange College went on the road and lost to Huntingdon on Oct. 15, and that was the start of a four-game losing streak.

The Panthers will be looking to end another streak today as well since they’re 0-4 at Callaway Stadium.

In last weekend’s game against North Carolina Wesleyan, LaGrange College appeared to be in good shape after taking a 23-14 lead in the second quarter, and it was up 23-21 at the half.

The second half belonged to the visiting Battling Bishops, though, who outscored the Panthers 28-0 to win going away.

A bright spot for the Panthers this season has been the performance of junior quarterback Connor Blair, who has a chance to break some school records today.

Blair has 31 touchdown passes, and he’s one away from tying the school record set by Graham Craig in 2013.

Blair needs 312 passing yards today to surpass Craig’s school record of 3,576.

Through nine games, Blair is completing 64 percent of his passes while averaging 362 yards per game, and he has been spreading the ball all over the field.

Fourteen different players have caught a pass, and that includes the outstanding quartet of Josh Hardrick, Marsalis Jackson, Lavelle Meeks and Ervens Oge who have 145 catches and 22 touchdowns between them.

Hardrick leads the way with 42 catches and four touchdowns, and Jackson has 41 receptions with six touchdowns.

Meeks has 34 catches and a team-best seven touchdowns, and Oge has 28 receptions and five touchdowns.

Marcus Campbell has also had a productive season with 18 catches and a pair of touchdowns, and Jamarkis Holmes has 17 catches out of the backfield with three touchdowns.

Also in double figures in catches are Markeis Levatte (17), Drew Lewiski (15), Jaylen Turner (14), Kiontai Button (11) and Nicholas Searcy (10).

Button has two touchdowns.

Holmes leads the running attack with 222 yards, and Searcy (179 yards) and Lewiski (162 yards) have two touchdown runs apiece.

Linebacker Fabian Ryan has had a big season on defense with 61 tackles, including 6.5 for loss, and fellow linebacker Khary Paige has 55 tackles with 3.5 for loss.

Defensive back Brandon Penn has 51 tackles, and Shamar Slappy and Edward Wright have 43 and 42 tackles, respectively.

For Methodist, quarterback Xavier Adams is a two-way threat.

Adams averages 182 passing yards per game and has thrown 10 touchdowns, and he has run for 525 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

E’Montie Dears has 572 rushing yards with five touchdowns.
