LaGRANGE – The Sisters for Sisters Lighthouse Ministry served food, hot dinners and gave out coats to the less fortunate on Friday afternoon at the Mike Daniel Recreational Center at 1220 Lafayette Parkway.
The Sisters for Sisters Lighthouse Ministry is a Christian Women’s Ministry that has been partaking in cooking, feeding and serving Thanksgiving meals to the needy for seven years at the same location.
“The focus of putting together this event is to give back and feed a hot Thanksgiving meal to the public all in the name of Christ,” said Brenda Walker, who heads up the dinner efforts. “We give out coats too and we just want to love on them.”
The preparation for the Thanksgiving dinner starts in August, when the ministry starts reaching out to people to support.
There were 150 people in attendance last year and Walker was prepared to give out as many dinners as they could.
In attendance to help serve, greet, and lend a helping hand were Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps students from Lafayette Christian School, employees from TJ Maxx and women from Christ Alone Ministries and the Word of Grace Christian Center.
“I really appreciate the support from all these people and ministries because they have been trailblazing with me for all these years,” said Walker.
Walker also feels a responsibility to serve people in whatever capacity she can.
“This is the heart of Christ. This is great for me to see that we’ll helping these people. It is so rewarding to me,” said Walker.
