Kim Camp, a registered nurse in the Intensive Care/Step-Down Unit, has been named WellStar West Georgia Medical Center’s 2017 Nurse of the Year.
An LPN for nine years and an RN for 16 years, Camp began working at WellStar WGMC in 1998 when she moved to LaGrange from West Palm, Fla. She began on the medical floor and has worked in the ICU/Step-Down Unit since 2013.
“Kim is a high performer and goes above and beyond regularly,” said Sue Brown, director of the ICU/Step-Down Unit. “When our night-shift staffing needs were greater than day shift, she volunteered to move from days to nights. Reviewing some aspects of our data is a big undertaking, but she volunteers for this task as well.
“She also does an outstanding job mentoring new nurses and holds them to the highest standards. She enjoys volunteering to teach classes and helping them develop their critical thinking skills.”
Her fellow team members say she goes above and beyond for both her patients and staff.
“Kim is an outstanding patient advocate and takes amazing care of her patients,” one of her nominators said. “She is someone I look up to and strive to mirror in my own interactions with my patients. … If there is a patient in need of clothes, she is on it. There is passion in all she does.”
