BUSY FOURTH: Concert headlines weekend

It’s going to be a busy Independence Day weekend at Sweetland Amphitheatre, which will host a movie night on Friday and The Molly Ringwalds concert Saturday.
Nobody is more excited than 11-year-old Jonah Miller, who won a contest Thursday and received eight tickets for a VIP skybox at Sweetland for the concert. The contest required each entrant to post a lip sync video, and Miller knew immediately that he wanted to take part.
But first, he had to choose which song he wanted to perform to.
In the end, he chose “Maneater” by Hall & Oates.
“I love the song, I like Hall & Oates and every time it plays [on the radio], me and my dad both sing along to it,” Jonah said.
Miller’s video shows him wearing a hat and lip syncing through the chorus of the song, which is one of his favorites. Since finding out he won, he’s been finalizing his invitation list, trying to figure out who all can make the concert.
“Mom and dad are just hoping to make the list,” joked his mom, Melissa.
Jonah won’t be the only one having fun though.
Between Friday night’s Sunsets at Sweetland event, which will feature the movie SING, and Saturday’s concert, there’s a lot going on.
Friday will also include a meet and greet with around a dozen World War II veterans.
“They’ll be both locally from LaGrange and also from Newnan, so we really hope we get a showing of folks to honor them and show our support and appreciation for their service,” said Becca Eiland with Sweetland Amphitheatre.
Eiland said the night is sponsored by Coors Light, which is bringing the Atlanta Braves RV full of fun and games. Vendors will also be available. The community orchestra will also play a concert.
“There will be 40 to 50 musicians that will be playing music for an hour and then some,” Eiland said.
On Saturday, The Molly Ringwalds, a 1980s cover band, will be the main attraction.
Tickets are still available for $12 lawn seats.
The night will also feature an 80s costume contest, with the winners taking home lawn seat tickets for next year’s concert series. The contest will start at the merchandise tent at 7:30 p.m., with the final round taking place on the concert stage.
The Return, a Beatles Tribute Band, will take the stage at 8 p.m. and the Molly Ringwalds will start performing at 9:30 p.m. Gates open 7 p.m.
