Enjoying showing off LaGrange

It’s been a busy couple of months at the Evans household, given all of the changes we’ve had in our lives recently.
Family members are still cycling through to see the baby, and last weekend we had my father and mother law in from Colorado Springs. We’ve also had family members visit from Pensacola and Orlando over the last month. All three of those cities are great vacation spots, so it’s always interesting when family visits us and gets to see the place we now call home for the first time.
You never know exactly how they’ll react, especially since they live in areas with so much to do, breathtaking views and tons of tourism.
Everybody that has visited left not only excited about LaGrange, but telling anyone in the family who would listen about how nice it is. That says a lot about the people here and the plethora of activities and amenities here.
Last weekend, life slowed down a little bit and we had a chance to take family to The Thread for a nice, relaxing walk. It was the first time I’d been to The Thread, but it won’t be the last time.
The walking track has already seen a lot of foot traffic, and it should continue to gain more as people realize what a resource it is.
After our walk, we swung by Frios Gourmet Pops for some ice cream, the first time I’d ever been there.
We also went by West Point Lake so that my mother and father in law could get their hands and feet in the water. Colorado has a lot of great things, but there’s nothing like a cool day on the water in the South. Even they’ll admit that.
By the end of the weekend, they were playfully joking about buying a small house in Troup County to come and visit us. Although that’s probably a pipe dream, it was exciting to hear their enthusiasm for LaGrange and the surrounding area.
For a city the size of LaGrange, there’s always something going on. On Friday, it was a movie at Sweetland. On Saturday, there were countless events and the West Point Lake beaches are always busy.
The Wild Animal Safari, which we featured on the cover of the first edition of LaGrange Living, brings in people from all over the country. Great Wolf is obviously still to come.
Sometimes it can be hard to take a step back and realize the truth about how good or bad things are when you’re fully invested in something. It’s always nice to hear an outsider’s point of view.
Our visiting family members have provided that the last few weeks, reaffirming that this growing city is truly a great place to live and work.
