DOUGLASVILLE – The high-flying Troup Tigers opened their Region 5-AAAA schedule in style with a 48-12 road win over Chapel Hill.
With senior quarterback Montez Crowe continuing to have his way with opposing defenses, Troup had its second-highest point total of the season.
The Tigers haven’t scored fewer than 31 points this season, and they’re averaging 42 points per game.
Only defending state-champion Cartersville has scored more points than Troup among the region’s teams.
In Friday’s game, Kobe Hudson and Jamari Thrash both had two touchdown catches from Crowe, and Tyree Carlisle had a scoring reception as well.
Carlisle also had two touchdown runs.
Troup’s defense also did a solid job, slowing down a Chapel Hill offense that hadn’t scored fewer than 21 points in a game.
The Tigers struck first, with Carlisle catching a pass out of the backfield for a 50-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Crowe threw two touchdown passes to Hudson and one to Thrash as Troup built a 27-6
halftime lead.
In the second half, Carlisle had two touchdown runs, and Crowe threw a scoring pass to Thrash.
Troup will be at home on Friday for a big region showdown against Sandy Creek.
