Bobby Carmichael, Executive Director of Downtown LaGrange Development Authority, announced his intention to retire. He plans to step down from his postion as soon as his successor has been hired.

Carmichael has served as Executive Director since 2011 and has been instrumental in such notable downtown projects as the Del’avant Event Center, District 4 Public Health Services office building, Marriott Courtyard at LaFayette Square, Sweetland Amphitheatre and Wild Leap Brew Co. Other transformative downtown improvements initiated during his term as Executive Director include  public parking decks and lots, a downtown wayfinding system and the sidewalk planter and bench programs.

“I have enjoyed my seven years working to help build out the strategic plan adopted for downtown in the year 2000. All the accomplishments would not have been possible without two strategic partners, The Callaway Foundation, Inc. and the City of LaGrange,” Carmichael said, “ they have been incredible.”  Carmichael continued to say, “ With the hotel nearing completion, the brewery opening this month and the wrapping up of a second successful season at Sweetland Amphitheatre, it seems to be the appropriate time to step aside.”

His duties as Executive Director include managing over $28,000,000 in assets as well as overseeing a diverse group of downtown commercial real estate holdings and operation of the Del’avant Event Center and Sweetland Amphitheatre.

The search for a full time executive director is currently being conducted.

In addition to strong communication and presentation skills, the successful candidate will possess functional knowledge of strategic planning, real estate development, financial management, budgeting and forecasting and have experience building concensus from a diverse group of stakeholders.
