The Olive Branch Gala tonight

It’s weird to think that it’s been about two months since Hurricane Irma came through Troup County. Thankfully for us living here, the storm passed and damage was pretty limited to falling trees.
While Troup survived one of the many hurricanes that passed through the Americas this year, others were unfortunate.
LaGrange College’s Servant Scholars is holding the Olive Branch Gala for those affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Jose and Maria tonight.
The event will feature a silent auction and music from the LaGrange College Chamber Choir and Angela Hutchins, along with other students.
All benefits raised by the event will go to the Red Cross’ Hurricane Relief Fund and this will be one of the largest fundraisers that the group has sponsored.
It seems whenever a natural disaster occurs, it gets large-scale media attention. Everyone rallies for supporting victims for a month and then it gets forgotten because news is ever changing. To follow through and keep up with how these victims are affected is a great thing.
The coverage may stop, but lives are still affected.
Keeping up with relief and raising funds for victims after the initial relief will positively impact the Community. This is because at some point, the original relief will run out and additional resources will still be needed.
All the community of LaGrange and Troup County has to do to help the victims with this event is simply attend.
The college service group is doing more than just raising relief — they are holding a fun event for residents to partake in, raising a sense of community.
If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet, it is $30 at the door.
We hope you can make it.
