Clentis Messer Bailey

Mrs. Clentis Messer Bailey, 95, of LaGrange passed away early Sunday morning at LaGrange Health and Rehabilitation. Mrs. Bailey was born July 15, 1922, in Wedowee, Alabama and had made her home in LaGrange most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alva Pearson Bailey and daughter Loretta Lynn Bailey, brother John Messer, special niece Ruby Sears and her “sister,” Naomi Frost.
Mrs. Bailey worked in the textile mill before becoming a dietitian at Rosemont Elementary School where she worked for many years. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and was an active member of the choir. “Mrs. Clentis” loved children and her family.
She will be well remembered for her gift of reciting poetry and scripture to anyone who visited with her. She loved to paint and draw, had a quick wit and smile and loved telling stories of her childhood and happy memories with family and friends. It made her day when former Sunday school students would call or recognize her.
She leaves behind to cherish these memories nieces Ramona Frost Laws-Nelms, Lana Frost Duffell, Teresa Trapnell , Janice Lifsey, Janice Sears Noles and nephews LaVon Williamson and Bo Trapnell along with many other great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Special and loving caretakers Jonna Ussery and Nicole Taylor, special friends of over 50 years, Polly Jackson, Raymond and Reba Smith and loving neighbors Gene, Opal, Christopher and Rebakah Hogg.
Funeral services for Mrs. Clentis Messer Bailey will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with the Reverend Aaron McCollough and the Reverend Nelson Furtado officiating.
A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.
