Man arrested for allegedly stealing from Walmart

Gregory Mobley, 43, was arrested after fleeing from officers after allegedly shoplifting from Walmart on New Franklin Road Tuesday after 2:47 p.m.
According to the police report, an officer was responding to a shoplifting call from Walmart when he noticed Mobley carrying a black bag at the Valley Ridge Apartment’s parking lot.
The Walmart security footage showed Mobley enter the store, take a Stanley Jump Starter valued at $49.97 and leave. Mobley then fled on foot toward the apartments.
According to the police report, officers arrested Mobley after a brief foot chase ended at the 900 block of Mooty Bridge Road. Mobley had two other warrants for theft by shoplifting at the time.
Woman arrested for shoplifting
Marian Travis, 49, was charged with theft by shoplifting after allegedly taking two Dewalt power drills from Home Depot Tuesday around 4:17 p.m.
The store’s loss prevention manager told police Travis entered the store with a large purse, took the drills and tried to conceal them in it and left the store. She jumped in a truck and left the parking lot with another person. According to the police report, the car was stopped by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office on the Interstate 85 northbound exit 18 ramp.
Travis told police she needed money and was going to sell the drills valued at $198.
Travis was then arrested. The truck driver, Kevin Carter, 36, was also arrested and charged with reckless driving and driving on a suspended/revoked license.
