Robert Dudley Sr.

The celebration of life service for Mr. Robert Dudley Sr. of LaGrange will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Mountain Springs Baptist Church, Highway 18 in West Point. Pastor Alfonzia Simpson Jr. will officiate.   Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Dudley, a native of LaGrange, was born Feb. 2, 1928, and was the son of the late Will and Mary Dudley. He joined the Macedonia Baptist Church early in his life. He was the last surviving member of the LaGrange City Cats Baseball Team of the Negro Baseball League.   He previously worked for Georgia Highway Express and later was employed with Newman Construction Company from which he retired.

He leaves to cherish loving memories, his devoted wife of 65 years, Charlie Ruth Cameron Dudley, LaGrange; children: Gaynell (Andrew) Williams, Carl (Sherry) Dudley, Angela (Ruben) Haynes,  Steven (Sheila) Dudley, Carolyn Dudley;  sister, Gertrude Kennedy, LaGrange; daughters-in-law: Mary Dudley, Cynthia Dudley, Renate Dudley; sisters-in-law: Willie Ruth Simpson, Mary Jean Cameron, Carolyn (Lee) Dunlap, all of LaGrange; grandchildren: Catania, Maurice, Kwanza, Ernest, Antoine, Tiffany, Veneka, Jermaine, Carl Jr., Andrea, LaToya, Tabitha, Erica, Kenneth Jr., Reshea, Daniel Jr.; thirty-seven grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons: Robert Jr.; Jerry, and Kenneth Dudley; eight sisters: Willie, Cordie Mae, Pearl, Julia, Laura, Dora, Lizzie, and Mamie; and two brothers: Tom and Henry.

The family will be at their home at 700 Juniper Street.
