The City of LaGrange wants residents to be aware of three speed limit changes on streets located in the city.

The LaGrange City Council officially approved recommendations made by the Georgia Department of Transportation to increase speed limits on three roadways located within the city. City approval is required in order for LaGrange Police to continue their use of speed detection devices on streets and roadways within the city.

Callaway Church Road, Vernon Street, and Hammett Road now have speed limit increases.

Callaway Church Road from its intersection with Lafayette Parkway south to the city limits will increase from a 35 mph speed zone to a 45 mph speed zone.

Hammett Road from its intersection with Young’s Mill Road to the city limits will increase its speed limit from 35 mph to 45 mph.

A portion of Vernon Street will also see an increased speed limit from 35 mph to 45 mph beginning 50 feet west of Ferrell Drive continuing to its intersection with Roanoke Road and West Point Road.

“The changes set forth this year by the Georgia Department of Transportation are not unexpected,” said LaGrange Police Lt. Mark Kostial. “They come about every three years when our speed detection device permit is renewed.”

GDOT inspects roadways within the city and offers recommendations to operate speed detection devices. In order to operate speed detection devices, the city needs to make these changes.

The speed limit changes went into effect Jan. 1. All signs have been changed to reflect the new speed limits.
