Ice Queen opens in LaGrange

LaGrange residents can scream for ice cream at the newly opened Ice Queen in downtown. The store sells bubble tea and rolling ice cream, which are Taiwan-style foods.
“Bubble tea, we call it bubble, but it’s tapioca,” said co-owner Kelly Ou. “So, you can add bubble to every drink, even ice cream.”
The ice cream is made fresh on a below 20-degree plate and can be made in two minutes, Ou said. The store has to cook tapioca for two hours for bubble tea, she said.
Customers can add toppings of their choice to the ice cream and tea.
The store also sells fruit and milk slush and will be adding coffee soon, Ou said.
She said the idea for a bubble tea store came after her friend bought Bull’s Hibachi Express.
“Like five or six months ago, one of my friends bought a restaurant here,” Ou said. “They told me to come here to have sweet stuff in this town because they found out there’s [not many choices for] ice cream or a drink shop in LaGrange.”
Ou said the store is named Ice Queen since she runs it with her girlfriends.
Ice Queen is located at 12 North Lafayette Square in downtown LaGrange. It is open Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
