LaGrange soccer teams win at Sandy Creek

TYRONE – LaGrange High’s soccer teams opened region play in style.
Facing home-standing Sandy Creek on Friday night, LaGrange’s boys’ and girls’ teams both came away with hard-earned victories to get their Region 5-AAAA schedules started on a positive note.
In the boys’ game, LaGrange outscored Sandy Creek 6-4.
Sandy Creek started quickly with two goals in the first five minutes of the game, but LaGrange rallied to take a 3-2 lead at the half.
In the second half, Sandy Creek regained the lead with two goals, but LaGrange scored the game’s final three goals to secure the win.
Robert Reese had two goals for the Grangers, and Max Halcomb, Liam McDonald, Harrison Hunnicutt and John McDonald each had one goal.
In the first half, after the Patriots went up 2-0, the Grangers got goals from Liam McDonald, Halcomb and Reese to take the halftime lead.
After the Patriots went back ahead, Reese scored on an assist from Hunter Brazell to pull the Grangers even.
LaGrange took the lead on a header by Hunnicutt on a pass from Jimmy Cancino, and Liam McDonald assisted on John McDonald’s final goal.
Jack DeVane was in goal for the Grangers.
It the girls’ game, LaGrange got a goal in the closing moments of regulation to beat Sandy Creek 2-1.
Sydney Ormsby, who has had a big freshman season, scored a pair of goals for LaGrange, including the game-winner in the closing moments of regulation.
Izzy Pippin had an assist on Ormsby’s game-winning goal.
Goal keeper Maurie White helped keep LaGrange in the game with some critical saves.
